Alva Kolan

Attorney Alva Kolan joined our Immigration and Status Department in 2023. Alva holds an LL.B degree in law with honors from Ono Academic College and has been a member of the Israel Bar Association since January 2022. Additionally, Alva holds a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Philosophy from the Hebrew University and a Master’s degree (M.A.) in Human Rights and Democratization with honors from the University of Malta.

Alva has extensive experience working in human rights organizations and defending the rights of marginalized populations. Attorney Kolan interned at the United Nations, promoting policy and legislation, and assisted in advancing a Zimbabwe law that criminalized domestic violence for the first time in that country’s history. For over a decade, Alva served as a policy and legislation advocate in the Knesset on behalf of several human rights organizations, aiming to change and improve not only the situation of individuals but also the policies and legislation affecting their rights.

Alva interned with the Israeli Public Defender’s Office in the criminal field and has experience representing immigration and status cases with criminal elements.

Attorney Kolan resides in Jerusalem with her partner and their daughter.
